ABOUT THE PROJECT:

With the goal to come up with the simplest, cleanest design, we limited our structure to two components and two materials resulting in two contrasting shapes in a tight balance.

We designed and built this cantilever with my classmate Noel Kala, as an Experimental Workshops project at MOME. The requirement of the cantilever was to bear the weight of the designers at a point at least 3 meters away from the point of fixture. The placement on the bridge was a given, and we had affix our structure without any alteration of the bridge. The design process was supported with thorough calculations, which proved correct upon the stress test…. but of course we were especially careful with those calculations, since the stress test was us climbing on the cantilever.
