About the project

In our 5th-semester project, we were tasked to create a conceptual plan for the rehabilitation of the historic Fecske Mill in Jászberény into a cultural and community center. Situated by the river Zagyva, my plan is centered around creating a 'mill garden,' an open-to-all park functioning as an outdoor 'living room' for the downtown, in close relation with the riverside.

The renovated mill - highlighted by its original brickwork - remains the centerpiece, housing a reception, bookstore, flexible studios for local artists and craftsmen, offices, a co-working area, kitchen with canteen, and versatile exhibition spaces on the 3rd floor.

A contemporary addition, the concrete arcade lines the site. Under the arcade and behind the perforated brick facade of its second floor, a coffee shop, an auditorium with seating for 200, activity spaces, and other additional functions are located.
